"Another Amazing First" by Steve Adams

While working near Johannesburg, South Africa, we found ourselves slaving over some R&D machines.  When we did have a day off, we got as much rest as we could and tried to schedule in some fun as well.

One weekend, we found ourselves at a Theme Park named Gold Reef City.  It was here that I experienced yet another amazing first.  We stood our place in line and eventually were invited in to the ride.  Mike and I looked at each other and grinned as we walked forward, boarded the aircraft and strapped in.

After a short safety talk, the engines spooled up and the whole airframe, passengers included, shook with anticipation.  Seconds later, we experienced the most surreal sensation of stationary floating.  Mike and I were ecstatic, but the very next sensation was the front of the aircraft falling and the start of forward momentum.  The experience of rising, dropping and seeing the theme park moving below proved to us that the helicopter ride was worth every Rand we spent.
